2025 GCI Member River Trip, June 14 – 18

Glen Canyon Institute is excited to announce our 2025 member river trip will be on the Yampa River through one of the most beautiful stretches of river in the whole system. The Yampa is one of the only free-rivers in the basin, making it of particular interest. This special five day trip will feature Amanda and Zak Podmore, two esteemed Colorado River experts and longtime advocates for a healthy river system. 

Zak recently released his book Life After Dead Pool and has taken many trips to Glen Canyon to understand the region better. His outlook for the future of Glen Canyon is bright, and he will help us contextualize our adventure through the lens of history, literature, and philosophy. Amanda is an environmental justice advocate and has spent her career advocating for the waters and lands of the Colorado River basin. As the Grand Canyon Director for Grand Canyon Trust, her wealth of knowledge of the issues will provide a deeper understanding to our time in the field.

This five day, four night trip will follow the Yampa from Deerlodge through twisting red rock down to Rainbow Park and into Dinosaur National Monument. We will experience exhilarating whitewater rapids, blissful, warm desert relaxation, sweeping views, and some unique history.

Amanda, Zak, and GCI’s staff and board will help you understand the history and future of this amazing place. As always, the top-notch guides at Holiday River Expeditions will offer rich interpretation of the river experience and provide amazing healthy and delicious meals.

When: June 14-18, five days, four nights on the river. 

Where: We will meet the evening before our trip on June 13th in Vernal, Utah at the Holiday River Expeditions HQ where we will leave our cars and be shuttled to and from the river.

Price: $1,899 until March 1st, then the price goes to $2,099
