This spring Glen Canyon Institute filed a protest against the Utah Division of Water Resource’s water right application to the state engineer’s office that would enable it develop water from the Colorado River. In the letter, GCI outlined that the projected development of water is flawed because the water won’t be available. This comes at an important moment: other Utah counties are pulling their support of the Lake Powell Pipeline, other states in the basin are cutting back on water use, climate change is reducing flows of the river, and a new comment period is open on an EIS that will dictate the future of the Lake Powell Pipeline.
