David Brower
David Brower was a preeminent environmentalist. He helped move the Sierra Club from a hiking group to a powerful advocacy organization. He helped form Glen Canyon Institute in the early 90’s.
Katie Lee
Katie Lee understood the soul of Glen Canyon unlike anyone else. Her passion for the canyon through songs, books, and interviews continues to guide our work and our understanding of our place in among the red rock.
Edward Abbey
Edward Abbey’s writing about the desert and wilderness inspired a whole generation of environmentalists and continues to inform our work today.
Bruce Berger
Bruce Berger was a nonfiction writer and poet best known for writings that explore the intersections of nature and culture, particularly in desert settings.
Kent Frost
Kent Frost was one of the earliest Euro-Americans to run the Grand Canyon. His stories, books, and histories are pivotal in our work understanding the canyons.
The David R. Brower Conservation Award
Created in 1998, the David R. Brower Conservation Award has honored individuals who have had a dramatic, positive impact on conservation efforts in the Colorado Plateau region. Award recipients have come from a wide range of backgrounds, from the arts to the sciences, from communications to activism, and from backcountry exploration to governmental policy.
